REP Renewal Is Not Automatic

Your PR status and your Re-Entry Permit (REP) are two different things. The REP is what allows a Singapore PR to leave the country and keep PR status while abroad.

Many PRs treat renewal as a routine step, but every REP renewal application is subject to ICA's approval on a case-by-case basis.

What changed on 1 December 2025

ICA revised the rules for PRs who are outside Singapore without a valid REP. Such a PR has 180 days to apply for a new one. If the application is not successful, PR status is lost the day after the rejection, even if the PR is already back in Singapore.
